Blog Reaction Of Gays To Falwell's Death
I've noticed something interesting in my own little corner of the blogiverse. Bloggers who are gay are responding to Falwell's death with an air of dignity and restraint that Falwell never exhibited toward gays and lesbians during his many years representing himself as a Christian rabbi. I am touched, even awed, by these reactions because I am always awed by the possibility of goodness and decency in human beings. I would not fault anyone for dumping on Falwell after all of the crass abuse he heaped on millions of people. This makes the restraint seem all the more admirable.
Of course, I've only surveyed my selective corner of the blog world and the reactions I've seen might not be representative of the larger world, but I am, nonetheless, impressed.
I tried to be a bit restrained. But, personally, find myself quietly agreeing with what Christopher Hitchens had the grits to say on CNN:
