You don't see the abbreviation Xmas much anymore. The Greek letter chi (X) was used as an abbreviation for Christ (Χριστός), although I suspect that most people didn't realize that. I guess those nuns taught us a few things, even if they frowned on the use of this shorthand for Christmas.
