Psychology, Mind & Neuroscience Roundup for Friday

  • A monkey controls a robot from 7,000 miles away.  You've got to check this one out at Neurophilosopher.
  • Jonah Lehrer laments the disconnect between actual experience and the "experiments of modern science."  Be sure to read the comments, as well.
  • Vaughan at Mindhacks writes: "The New England Journal of Medicine has just published a study that found the effectiveness of 12 of the most popular antidepressants has been exaggerated because pharmaceutical companies have been 'hiding' data from negative drug trials."  An article in the WSJ reports on this study and Dinah at Shrink Rap responds: "There's someone out there who thought antidepressants work all the time? This is why people need psychiatrists, not primary care docs, managing their psych meds."
  • Dr. Steve continues his exploration of empathy.
  • Compulsive buyers are often compulsive hoarders (Providentia).
