Andrew Sullivan On His Brief But Conspicuous Absence

Sullivan also posted a clip from Desperate Housewives featuring a mother forcing a child to apologize to neighbors for something he's done because she is worried about her own image as a parent.  She moves her lips in synch with the child who was obviously instructed by his mother to tell the neighbors: "my actions should in no way influence your opinion of her as a parent."

Looks like Sullivan may be hinting that the Atlantic is trying to control what he says about Palin, although Sullivan denies he's under any pressure.

There is more meaning in that Housewives clip. The religious, moralistic mother, Brie, is also the character who pretended she was pregnant in a cover up of her daughter's pregnancy. The clip is about protecting the honor of a lying religious woman who faked a pregnancy.

Sullivan is telling us that this is about Palin and the pressure on him to back off.
