Nothing new about this. It is only one more example of the pagan treatment of women in countries where women are summarily degraded. Islam's record is poor; Christianity has changed, under pressure; Hindu's are beginning to talk a better game, but, well---the jury's out on their sincerity-so to speak.
Cultural intractability is ingrained. Like a dead skunk---in the middle of the road.
