When I hear young conservative guys ranting against feminism, I always think to myself that they're oblivious to just how extreme the cultural diminution of women has been.
Yesterday, Andrew Sullivan posted the video embedded below. It's just a thin slice of the America of my childhood and that of many millions of living Americans. Note, as well, this TV program was considered culturally progressive in its day because the dad was warm and affectionate with his son.
Oh, if you're of Japanese ancestry, this will be a real trip, but then again, you already knew. I must add that none of what is deeply offensive about this video changed because of social conservatism. None of it. And if you think that conservatives didn't fight tooth and nail against the positive changes in our culture since that time, you are either young or you have a convenient case of amnesia.
By the way, the girl in this clip is Jodie Foster.
That was cringeworthy

Thanks for the video. I have fond memories of that show too, though I think this episode would have really weirded me out as a kid. It definitely does now.
I liked your comments about conservatives and positive change--so true.
My theory is that modern conservatives hate feminism because it's part of liberalism. May their nightmares be filled with images of Jodie Foster coming after them with her boxing gloves on, beating on them until they cry in front of their dads.
