There must be some correlation, aside from cultural intractability, that determines treatment of women in socially primitive countries. Perhaps it is as simple as over-population: This is obviously the fault of women, right? THEY get pregnant, because men want to have sex with them. So, let's just kill them and reduce the detrimental effects of over-population. There are many reasons for the senseless rape and killing of women. Over-population in socially primitive countries is just one. Or,---is that TWO?

While I'm not making an excuse for rape, burning someone alive is much more horrible.
