Suspense, a thriller, well-crafted, but didn't otherwise do much for me. The characters were utterly one-dimensional. Entertainment more than art. Fine for what it was, but Best Picture? Really?
How to do suspense and really bring character into play? Homeland.
It's a movie where Hollywood saves the day - or fake Hollywood does. How could it lose?
The award had nothing to do with art and everything to do with self congratulation.

Ouch! I think the Oscars are the self-congratulatory part. While Argo was the only nominated film I saw, and my expectations where not high (I had nerd-specific reasons for getting out to see it in the first place, which were not satisfied, I might add) I found it engrossing. And ultimately, it amazed me for how suspenseful it was, even though it was an event I lived through and remember well. That seems like a superior accomplishment to me. But to each his or her own.
Would either of you have rathered "Le Miz" won? I heard it was good, and far more typically "Oscar-ish."
