Lake Shore Drive is an eight-lane limited access highway that runs along the Chicago shore of Lake Michigan. This from the Tribune:
Police believe that alcohol may have played a factor when a wrong-way driver struck two vehicles and injured three people, two fatally, in a crash early today on Lake Shore Drive.
Alcohol? Really?
I wouldn't be shocked to learn that there were previous incidents involving this cop, alcohol and automobiles. I wonder if he was in Chicago for the St. Patrick's Day festivities. Chicago is a gigantic tub of alcohol this weekend.
Note: Though the wreck occurred in Chicago, the officer is not a City of Chicago police officer. The article indicates that he's with the North Chicago PD. North Chicago is a distant North suburb located near the Illinois-Wisconsin border.
How the hell do you drive the wrong way on Lake Shore Drive? Well, unless you're drunk that is.

Geisterfahrer was the first thing I thought of. Usually they are a car full of teenagers, sometimes a lone one on a dare. I've heard of suicidal/homicidal ones but never actually read about one. Plug that term into Google images and the pictures are not pretty.
