Overheard a young woman flirting with some guy.
I was told she was a vocal-fry girl, which apparently annoys a lot of people because it conveys an attitude that... well.. annoys a lot of people.
I certainly recognized vocal fry as a way of speaking for many adolescent girls and young women, but it never occurred to me that there was a name for it or that people actually talk about it disdainfully.
Huh? Crawling out from out of my cave...Bimbo? Valley Girl? Stoner? Emo? Angsty? I don't know what they say now... I forget the terms. My kids obnoxiously correct me when I try to label anyone (they don't know much calculus or much about American governnment or non-massaged history but they DO know what they are supposed to say and what they aren't. We might as well live in Stalinist Russia...just teasing)....What was she saying? Sample phrases...
