This week I tried an Insomnia Cookie after we saw A Ghost Story in Evanston, the city bordering Chicago's North Side. If you're unfamiliar, Insomnia Cookies is an ice cream and cookie shop that has both in-store sales and delivery until 3:00 am. I think they mostly operate in the vicinity of universities located in the eastern half of the U.S.
I love chocolate chip cookies. I like them crispy. I like them soft. With small chips. Or large chips. With nuts. Without nuts. Warm. Room temperature. Or cold.
But I didn't like the Insomnia Cookie I tried. It was a straightforward chocolate chunk cookie, with a hint of burnt aftertaste, and it was doughy, globby and sweet in a way that just didn't work for me.
Based on reviews I've read, I might be the only person who doesn't like these cookies.*
I'd concede that it might work better for me if I ate it served under a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Anyway, I'm not ready to give up on them. There's a double chocolate chunk that I'll stay away from, but they have other types I'll try next time we're up that way.
*A friend advised that I'd enjoy them if I were a stoned college student.
