I work for an advocacy group that includes some ISPs, and if you do end up looking into it I would recommend checking out our blog at http://handsoff.org.

I agree with your first instinct, keeping restrictions from business as much as possible. And while these businesses were at one time government monopolies, they aren't now. Most zip codes in the US have more than one Internet option. The vast majority have two, and many have more. And with municipal wifi and other wireless networks coming online, there's even less need for regulation.

Net neutrality is a fine concept, depending on what's meant by it, but regulations aren't the answer. And if Obama wants to keep ISPs from doing any traffic-shaping whatsoever, then I'd be worried.
