Ordinarily, people are not barbaric. Well, not so much anyway. Their governing bodies may turn to such methods when they are not getting their way, or when those methods are indigenous to ruling power structures and family/tribal interests. We are, in large part, what we are taught. We are, in greater part, what we LEARN. Or, as a mentor once said to me: if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

If we do not perceive something as broken, we are unlikely to think about repairing it. Unless moved by some outside force. Static inertia may be overcome by dynamic inertia. It's just physics, afterall. Ha, ha.

The issue is that for the last 40 years Syria has bee ruled by a barbaric regime. Hama rules, anyone?

In addition mention the more recent assassinations in Lebanon.

Need I go on?
