A man was arrested for a June 9th IPod robbery and mugging on the Red Line (subway) after he was spotted in a donut shop by an alert CTA employee who recognized him from the two-month-old surveillance video of the robbery.
The story doesn't mention it, but the victim was Jesse Andersen, brother of The Smashing Pumpkins frontman, Billy Corgan. Andersen was on his way to work at the Hyatt Hotel when he was accosted by a group of four men and a woman.
But innocent until proven guilty. Could be an identification error, though when the police picked up the accused, he was allegedly in possession of a phone stolen in another CTA robbery. He's been charged in that robbery, as well.
The accused knuckle head, Kenneth Parron, also goes by the name PP Man, which isn't the toughest moniker for a guy being held in county lockup in lieu of $80k bail.
Mr. PP Man is 35-years-old, which is in itself shocking. Mob street attacks are generally a younger man's game.
In other mugger news, there was another mob attack on the Mag Mile over the weekend. The attack was interrupted mid-pounding by a Chicago police officer who managed to catch one of the assailants--a fifteen year old. He was charged with mob action.
