Back in the old days, we redeemed Buckeye, Top Value and S&H Green Stamps. One might get a toaster, ice cream maker, or some other gee gaw or doo dad. Sure, I feel badly for Ms. Klein. But, we are where we are---whether choice put us there or no.
As I get older (and I'm not nuch younger than Ms. Klein), I notice the growing disdain for older folks. People in their later forties to early fifties appear to be, generally, intolerant of older folks: particularly those who refuse to kow-tow to their wishes. I'm sure there is some analysis and assessment of this phenomenon. Or, if not, there will soon be one. Wish I had some of that money.

I'd move to Costa Rica, and by the time this egregious behavior caught up with me and mine? It would not matter. She and I would be dead.

I would not be surprised in the slightest if this was pretty much the same impulse that led to Anita Sarkeesian's Kickstarter project to make a video series on sexism in video games earn $159,000 rather than the $6,000 she was initially asking for after she received a torrent of online abuse about it.

Unfortunately I think it's also the same impulse that leads people to think that such abuse is inappropriate when they see someone doing something they dislike on the internet. Sending someone horrible messages feels like "doing something" too. Obviously I want the form of communal like/dislike button to tend more toward donations than death threats, but they really seem like two sides of the same coin.

Interesting thoughts. This sounds right.
