Saw this video some time ago, but I don't think I posted it at the time. Something I read in another blog reminded me of it. The first time I watched it, I'd wondered if it was fake. Who would film the entire thing, from pre-bite forward? But the swelling hand and hospital scene make it clear that this really happened. One hell of a story to tell when this couple returned home: What we did on our American vacation.

A Tinley Park woman accused of running over her boyfriend with a car after she drove him home from a bar Friday will need to post $10,000 to leave jail.
Christine A. Meyers, 23, picked up her boyfriend from a bar on Friday and began arguing with him, prosecutors said Sunday in Cook County Bond Court. When the couple arrived at the house they share in the 17700 block of South Ridgeland Avenue in Tinley Park, the boyfriend got out of the car and sprawled out on the ground in front of the vehicle. Then, prosecutors say, Meyers drove over him.
Meyers faces an aggravated domestic battery charge after her boyfriend suffered severe burns on his chest and back. The man also suffered burns that tore the skin off his testicles, an injury that required surgery, prosecutors said.
Today I find myself with the very good fortune of holding $225 in Barnes and Noble gift cards. If I hadn't received an early Christmas gift of an IPad3 (9.7") in November, using the B&N cards would be a no-brainer; I would pick up a Nook HD+ (9.3"). But now I'm wondering if even the smaller HD (7") would seem superfluous.
The IPad 3 has been perfect when I don't need to pack my larger workhorse laptop, so I'm not sure there is anything to be gained by adding a smaller Nook. I'm also not thrilled with being locked into the Nook operating system. I was looking at the Nook Color around mid-year and found a cheap, well-reviewed kit to run Android from an SD card or, taking my chances, I could install Android right on the Nook, with an option to reinstall the Nook system if the Nook bricks before the warranty has expired. But the Nook Color has been replaced by the HD/HD+ and, so far, I find no kit to go pure Android with newer Nooks. I wouldn't mind having an Android along side the iOS6.
I know. It's an embarrassment of riches and I'm not complaining. Just trying to decide. Maybe I'll think of someone special who could use a Nook.

A teenager’s joking text message about two bank robbers who escaped from a South Loop jail escalated into a 911 call prompting authorities to swarm a bank in Orland Park, authorities and bank officials said this afternoon.[...]
Jeff MacDonald, marketing director for Marquette, said a 19-year-old customer told her mother via text message that she was going to the bank Tuesday. Her mother responded by telling her daughter to be careful because of the ongoing search for the escaped bank robbers who had been sighted that morning in Tinley Park.
Jokingly, the daughter texted her mother to say, “They’re here, they have guns,” MacDonald said, but her mother didn’t know it was a joke and she called 911.
