This is Lakeshore Drive northbound on Tuesday morning. Southbound lanes are closed altogether, with entrances blocked by police. Ordinarily traffic would be bumper to bumper.
I did make my way over to my office to pick up mail and a few packages. Many streets are closed, but you can snake through the neighborhood on the few north-south streets that remain open. I did need ID to actually enter my street and get to my building.
National Guard presence is light, between one and a few soldiers with light armored vehicles posted at some street corners backed by sanitation workers and trucks, but police had most of the intersections manned. I didn't see much indication of damage on the Northside, though some businesses were newly boarded up.
Down closer to my office, all of the retail businesses were boarded up but people were out and walking around the neighborhood. Michigan Avenue had light foot and auto traffic and, other than boarded up windows, the streets look clean.
