There are over 300 hundred lawsuits related to voting and ballot-counting across the country. In almost every case, Republicans are trying to make it more difficult to vote and easier to disqualify ballots submitted. Donald Trump's political donor-appointee to the postal service has kneecapped mail delivery, and GOP lawyers persuaded courts in some states to reject ballots that may be delayed by the post office. Republican leaders have also removed ballot drop-off boxes and cut polling locations in Democratic areas to increase waiting times to cast ballots.
Trump refuses to say if he will support a peaceful transition of power should he lose. He has done nothing but sow confusion and doubt about the election results, knowing he is poised to lose. And in a brazen move to intimidate voters, Republican lawyers have even persuaded a Michigan court to allow open carry of firearms at polling places on election day.
In the last presidential election, Trump's victory was narrowly determined by about 80,000 votes in a handful of swing states, so Republicans hope that by blocking even a tiny fraction of the total number of votes cast, they can thwart the will of the American people. They know they are losing, and they know they can't win honestly, so the only hope they have left is to steal the election by any means at their disposal. This is the real reason they rushed Amy Coney Barrett's nomination and confirmation through the senate. They wanted another partisan vote on the court to steal the election when they swarm the courts with vote-stealing lawsuits.
So, if you must vote by mail-in ballot, find a drop off location, no matter how far from your home, and hand-deliver your ballot. If you can vote in-person, do so as soon as possible. Be prepared for a long wait in some areas, especially in urban areas in Republican-controlled states.
If you see a frail or elderly person in a long line to vote, let them move ahead in the line. It's the decent thing to do in any election, but it's especially important in this election. Please don't make them stand in line for hours, unable to eat, drink, and use a washroom.
The Republicans are fighting for their political lives in a nation that is fed up with their corruption. If voters make sure that their votes are counted by hand-delivering their ballots, voting early, or waiting in line no matter how long it takes, the GOP will lose, the most corrupt president in our nation's history will be ousted, and we can begin to restore decency in America.
